Guide Service
Our guides love to fish. If they are not with clients or taking care of the necessary duties of life they are on the water finding those ever-changing sweet spots and perfecting the techniques that make for a successful and fulfilling day. This translates over to successful fishing trips for clients of all skill levels and insurance that you are in the best spot possible for the time you have on the water. The majority of our fishing trips are traditional walk and wade guide trips and always make for a great fly fishing experience, standing in the moving water while hearing the sounds around you and feeling the waters is part of the fly fishing experience.
From around September to May with small windows all year long we offer guided drift boat trips out of a 16ft wooded classic McKenzie style river boat. This is a hard bottom boat with comfortable seats and room for a guide and two clients to fish comfortably. We will be fishing dry flies, nymphs and streamers from the boat and occasionally leaving the boat to fish places not many fly anglers have seen.
Towards the end of September its time for me to revisit my fly fishing roots where I grew up and cut my teeth on the river. I take a group of 2-8 anglers up to my fathers fly lodge where we enjoy solitude on the Mighty Clark Fork river of western Montana. Accurate casts with large attractor dry flies, caddis and mayflies from the comfort of a McKinzie style drift boat is the normal day here. One of my favorite methods of fishing the Clark Fork is throwing large attractors with clients and watching as the wild trout explode leaving the angler shocked when he finally realizes it was actually his bug! Sometimes the fly angler will strike so hard out of fright that he will actually break 3x (8lb) tippet on the fish!! It makes for a great time Lodging is in riverside long cabins. The main lodge has a 12 person dining room where all meals are served and included.
After having it on the mind the entire year in December and January David heads to Chilean Patagonia where his father has lived the last six winters. The waters David and his Dad fish come from years of scouting Chilean waters while integrating into local the local population to get the "in" on many spots not usually visited by North Americans. Very large browns, rainbows, brooks and a variety of landlocked and anadromous salmon are also in the rivers and lakes of the Chilean waters we fish. Some fish are taken on classic patterns that we would use here in North America such as mayflies and stoneflies, but the majority of our large fish in Patagonia are taken on large streamers, dragonfly nymphs and dries(mata piojos) , Snails (caracoles), and very big attractors. The most exciting fly fishing one can have with big trout is watching a huge trout crush a Mouse (raton) pattern with wreckless intent in crystal clear water. When arriving in Chilean Patagonia with David you will not be going to a lodge with other
english speaking clients, you will be going to stay in actual Chilean guest houses and Chilean friends that have land and houses on Patagonian water. These families will be cooking and taking care of us for our entire stay. Both David and his father are well versed in Chilean Spanish and integrated in into Chilean society making for a absolute quality trip of a lifetime!!
