Hot Creek fish have been active and the creek has been flowing with less weeds every week. Nymphing the usual Baetis, and Midge Larvae and Emergers has been great in any open flowing water with a well placed cast and drift… Small pods of fish rise throughout the system on very very small dries #22-26. These are very technical fish which require precison and skill with a touch of luck to successfully hook these fish. Under the water fish RS2’s, Biot and Loop Wing BWO’s (baetis) and T-Midges in #18-22. On top try Thorax and Cut Wing or Comparadun BWO’s in #20-24, Foam top Midges, Gnats, Grizzly Midges or tiny Partridge Caddis in #20-24. These are a few patterns that will consistently take fish on Hot Creek. Check out the video I took recently of large Rainbow and Brown trout moving about and feeding on tiny dries in Hot Creek.
